Work begins on new Tresham site
05 February 2010
The first sod has been cut at the Oakley Road site of the new Tresham College campus in Corby.
Phil Hope MP and Tresham principal Mark Silverman officially opened the work today on the £36 million project to create the new campus on the former site of Corby Community College.
The funding for the new campus is being provided by the Learning and Skills Council, plus the Homes and Communities Agency and Barclays Bank. The new site is being designed to bring more and varied courses into Corby in order to generate a wider skills base in town.
Phil Hope MP : "The new campus will raise aspirations and encourage more Corby young people to continue in further and higher education. The timing couldn’t be better – bringing new jobs and apprenticeships to local people."
Tresham principal Mark Silverman: "Following our good Ofsted report we strive to be an outstanding provider for education in the area and this new campus in Corby, which will compliment our Kettering campus which was opened in 2007, is our next step in a very important journey forward."
Simon Evans from the North Northants Development Company : ""This project has made excellent progress and soon local people will be able to see for themselves another major new building taking shape in Corby, hot on the heels of the new pool and Corby Cube."
