Bill Boyd reports:

Emma MacFarlane after finishing 21st at last years indoors came an excellent 7th in the National Champs at Sheffield .

The first event (60m.H) wasnt as fast as she has already ran indoors this year and her
10.41 secs saw her down in 19th place. High jump was next and she cleared 1.48m. easily before just failing at 1.51m. This saw her move up to 12th Place. She threw a lifetime pb of 7.59m. with the 3.25k shot to remain in 12th but a new indoor best of 4.52m. in the long jump took her up to 11th with one event to go . Emma won her 800m. race with the second fastest time of the competition in 2.34.16 which is down on her indoor pb set at Birmingham three weeks ago but a slight foot injury had hampered her through the race which slightly affected her performance.
None the less it was a great improvement on last year and she ended up with 2684 points.

This ranks Emma 9th in the UK Pentathlon rankings this Winter.

Rugby Union, Midlands 1 East: Stewarts and Lloyds 48-5 Wellingborough

Easily S & L RFC's best result of the season, however they remain second from bottom in the league. Corby RFC's scheduled game was postponed as Rushden 3rds could not provide enough players.

Mens Hockey, East Midlands Div 1: Derwent 1-0 Corby -

Corby need one more win from 3 games left to secure 2nd place and a possible promotion.
