Eight arrested in drugs bust

Eight people are in custody after ninety police officers took part in an anti-drugs raid in Corby yesterday.

They described the main premises searched at Eastbrook as "heavily fortified"  - arrests were also made from addresses on Gainsborough Road.

Those arrested are three women aged between 24 and 53 and five men between the ages of 19 and 35.

Police described the operation as being on "the last large-scale drugs supply house" in Corby.

They added it came after "months of rigourous intelligence gathering".

Northamptonshire Police say pictured above "shows the door to the side of one of the properties, from where customers would be supplied their drugs through a small hatch without being able to see the identity of the supplier." They added that "customers would also be on CCTV which was viewed from within the property."

The Queen to visit Corby

Her Majesty the Queen will visit Corby this summer.

Buckingham Palace released news last night of a tour the monarch will undertake as part of this year's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be in Corby on June the 13th or 14th as part of the East Midlands leg of the tour.

It won't be the first time the Queen has visited Corby - in the past she has opened Corby Town Centre, Queen Elizabeth School and Rockingham Motor Speedway.

The Mayor of Corby, Cllr Gail McDade, said:

‘We are so proud and honoured that The Queen will be coming to visit Corby and can’t wait to be able to show off the spirit and ambition of our Borough.

‘We have recently bid for City Status and the news now of the royal visit is an extra boost to our town, especially after a recent poll tried to announce Corby as one of the least deserving places to win the bid. The Queen’s last visit to Corby was in May 2001 to open Rockingham Speedway, and we are sure that she will be very impressed with the improvements and successful regeneration the Borough has had since then. I’m sure she will see first hand why we made the bid in the first place.’

Northamptonshire Police are warning us over a potential scam at cashpoints.

They say fraudsters have started using a device similar to a piece of car trim, over the slot from where money is dispensed.

This can fool the user of the cashpoint into thinking money hasnt been dispensed - cash the fraudster can then uncover and make off with.

Police say anyone with concerns needs to call them on 101.
