Many shops had to close early and send home staff on Thursday after a power cut affected the greater part of Corby town centre.

Between 2:35 and 4pm power was lost after third party damage was caused to a cable close to the Corby Cube.

A Corby man has died more than four years after a road traffic collision
in the county.

51 year old Leslie John Nolan of Pevensey Walk was involved in a collision on the A43
Broughton by-pass in May 2006.

He died at Kettering General Hospital on Tuesday this week.

Work on the next phase of the Parkland Gateway project in the town centre is set to begin on Monday.

Traffic will be diverted and bus stops moved as work begins on George Street
to try and provide improve pedestrian access between the shopping area and the cube and pool.

Traffic that normally uses George Street as a through route will be diverted via the new roundabout
at the junction of Westcott Way and Cottingham Road.

Meanwhile bus stops on George Street will be moved to Elizabeth Street.

Kettering General Hospital has completed a major refurbishment of its
main medical ward blocks - the Harrowdens.

4 point 7 million pounds has been spent to make them state of the art -
All of these areas are now single sex and the number of single rooms
available has doubled from six to 12.

Members of the KGH Foundation Trust have now been asked to come
up with a new name for the wards.

Nearly 200 new parking spaces have been created in Corby town centre.

A new car park in the Parkland Gateway project was opened on Thursday - the spaces are close to the East Midlands Pool off Westcott Way - theyll operate on a pay and display system with 2 hours parking costing 50 pence.

County councillors in Northampton have approved plans to upgrade street lighting.

A private company has now taken over the running of street lights and will undertake the project to create new columns that are more energy efficient. The project will cost eighty eight million pounds through a private finance intitative.

Studfall Junior School has won high praise from education
inspectors.

In a new report Ofsted have said the school in Rowlett Road is "outstanding".

Inspectors visited 20 lessons and praised the school's
two headteachers and teachers as excellent.

They added that the only room for improvement in the school
was in its use of modern technology.

The health service in Northamptonshire have stated their intent to
fight diabetes through prevention.

A new initiative from the NHS locally is a patient pathway that will
seek to prevent the onset of diabeetes and complictions from it.

Theyre promising more services in the community on this health issue
over the next three
years.

Local services are dealing with crime problems in Corby -
that's the findings of a survey from the town's
community partnership

Almost three-quarters of people asked as part of the Jag
for all project were happy with how issues were being dealt
with.

The most common issue that was highlighted was anti-social behaviour
in the evenings - the team's said more targeted police patrols
will be brought in as a result.

Highland Gathering 2010

The 42nd Annual Highland Gathering was held in Corby's Old Village on Sunday, with around 8,000 people attending the event that celebrates Corby's Scottish links.
