A ten week Deep Clean project of Hazelwood and Thoroughsale has concluded with commendation from the Royal Forestry Society on Thursday.

Today there members from across the country visited the woods to see the changes brought about by the removal of some 25 tonnes of rubbish by Corby volunteers.

The Mayor of Corby planted a tree with the RFS to mark the progress made. Below you can listen to Councillor Mary Butcher addressing the guests after the tree planting, followed by Rick Allanson from the Friends of Hazelwood and Thoroughsale.

Police in Corby say they still dont know why a car left the road and crashed at Rockingham Hill at the weekend.

The driver of the vehicle had to be treated for serious injuries after the Peugeot 306 he was driving left the road just before
6 on Saturday morning.

Police are asking for witnesses to contact the Drivewatch hotline which is 0800 174 615.

 

The best training to save lives has now been made available at Corby Pool.

The pool's been given a coveted training status after its staff took exams on lifeguard skills.

The nod from the Institute of Qualified Lifeguards follows the facility being recommended for its swimming training earlier this year.

 

Corby will be honouring its ex service personnel in the week leading up to National Armed Forces Day.

The Veterans Badge Presentation will happen shortly before June the 26th with the Mayor of Corby honouring former service men and women from our borough, who may not already have a veterans badge.

A Corby teenager's been selected for a national football team.

14 year old Thomas Brown has been picked to join Scotland's Cerebral Palsy Future Squad.

Thomas is a keen footballer despite having a mild form of the disability.

The team are set to take part in the Home Nations Tournament later this year- with the squad a possible stepping stone to competing in the London Paralympics.

A mobile phone was stolen from a security guard in the town centre after he was threatened with what was thought to be
a handgun.

The robbery happened in the early hours of Monday behind Buckingham Bingo in Wood Street, Corby.The guard was confronted in his hut by two men - one of whom brandished the gun.

The guard was also assualted following the robbery.

Both men were wearing balaclavas. The first offender is described as white, in his late teens / early twenties, approx 5ft 10incs tall of slim build. He had light brown hair and wore a black hooded top and dark coloured trousers.

The second offender is white, approx 5ft 6ins tall of slim build and also wore dark coloured clothing.

A Corby man has been jailed for two months for breaching an order not to keep animals

42 year old James Fordyce pleaded guilty to breaking a disqualification order by having controlled ownership of three dogs.

His partner Cheryl Gautrey was given a 20 week custodial sentence and ordered to do 150 hours community service for the same offence

Fordyce had previously been subject to an animal ownership banning order relating for neglect offences to four
German Shepherd dogs.

The breach came to light after a police officer found him walking another dog along the hard shoulder of the M6.

The person rescued from a Corby house fire on Wednesday was an elderly woman.

Two other people were treated for inhaling smoke after the fire at Reigate Walk which was thought to be arson.

Police questioned a 29 year old man in connection with the incident, who they released on bail ending further enquiries.

Unemployment in Corby has slightly bucked the national trend.

The amount of people caliming Jobseekers Allowance in the borough now stands at 5.7 per cent down fractionally from last month - the national average is 4.1 per cent.

Unemployment across the country currently stands at just over 2 and a half million.

The Rockingham Castle Estate will be paid six million pounds in compensation by Northants County Council.

It's beacuse land owned by the estate became contaminated by waste from a landfill site next to it.

Northampton say they can handle the pay out from there reserve fund.
